Primary care is changing and from now through September, all BC family doctors will have an opportunity to share their ideas about how they want to practice and care for their patients in the future.
The Family Practice Services Committee (FPSC) visioning process will provide GPs with multiple opportunities to have their say, including online options and in-person engagement events. What the FPSC hears will lead to a GP vision for the future of primary care that will help it to influence policy, set priorities and allocate its budget for the next three to five years. The decisions made will impact GPs, their practices and their patients.
Family physicians can visit gpscvisioning.ca to learn about the visioning process and how to participate. They can also join online conversations to identify important topics related to family practice, listen to the views of other GPs, express their views and have open discussions.
As many local divisions of family practice will co-host in-person meetings with the VSC, a schedule of upcoming meetings and highlights from discussions at previous meetings are available here. GPs who cannot attend an in-person meeting in their region will be able to discuss the same topics and questions in a “virtual in-person event.”
At the end of the consultative processes, physicians’ feedback will be analyzed and summarized in a report which the FPSC will use as the foundation for supporting GPs in practice and creating a GP vision for the future of primary care. That vision will be shared with members, health authorities and health care decision-makers in government.
This is every GP’s opportunity to have a positive impact not only on how they are going to practice and care for their patients, but on the future of primary care. We encourage you to participate and speak up. Attend a local engagement meeting. Join the conversation online at gpscvisioning.ca
