Long-Term Care Resources

The Long-Term Care Initiative is designed to enable divisions of family practice to develop local solutions to improve care for patients in long-term care facilities. The initiative was prototyped by five divisions, beginning in 2011: Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Prince George, South Okanagan Similkameen, and White Rock-South Surrey.

Based on the successes achieved in those communities, the FPSC has earmarked up to $12 million annually to support divisions in designing local, scalable, and sustainable solutions that cover all long-term care facilities in about 104 BC communities.

To learn more about the background of the Long-Term Care Initiative and the work being done by divisions around the province, read the FPSC columns about the initiative in the BC Medical Journal from May 2015 and October 2015.

Dr Ian Bekker, a member of the Victoria Division of Family Practice, with the support of the provincial Divisions office, has developed series of webinars entitled "Long-Term Care: Supporting Physicians Leading Change," with the goal of improving the care of patients living in long-term care by involving physicians in a community of practice.
