Emergency Department - Comox Valley Hospital

The physicians staffing the CVH Emergency Department, would welcome assistance now through September 3, 2024 by any FP willing to locum with our collegial group of physicians and nurses to pick up available RADU shifts (Rapid Admit and Discharge Unit - a virtual unit in the ED that includes seeing ED patients). 

Shift Information: This shift is generally 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. and covers the 0-6 RADU patients who are generally straight forward admits of patients likely to be discharged within 1-2 days from the ED. The RADU physician also sees ED patients at their comfort level, mostly in the ambulatory area, with ERPs available as back up as needed. Start time and shift length can be flexible, orientation and ED tour can be included in your first shift.

Remuneration: The hourly rate is $217/hr weekdays, $250+/hr weekends and slightly more for those with EM designation (per Island Health policy).

Site Visit & Relocation Allowance Programs: May be eligible for site visit and relocation cost reimbursement. Eligibility is processed through Island Health Authority.

May be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA), including (subject to change): 

  • Recruitment Incentive: up to a maximum of $10,000 (pro-rated based on FTE)
  • Relocation: up to a maximum of $15,000 (amount based on location relocating from)
  • Flat fee: $10,516.77
  • Fee Premium: 6.93%
  • CME: Rural CME starting at $2,200/annum in years 3 & 4 in the community, increasing to a maximum of $4,400/annum after 4 years

Qualifications Required:

  • Eligible for licensure as a Family Physician with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC).
  • Satisfy the credentialing requirements of Vancouver Island Health Authority, Comox Valley Hospital. 
  • Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA).
  • ACLS Desired
