About Community Rural Continuing Medical Education (RCME) Program

The Community Rural Continuing Medical Education (RCME) Program is a provincial initiative supported by the Joint Standing Committee (JSC) on Rural Issues, designed to enhance medical knowledge, improve clinical skills, and foster collaboration among healthcare professionals in rural communities. 

In the Comox Valley Division, the RCME program is led by Dr. Kevin Swanson and offers structured learning opportunities tailored to the needs of family physicians and nurse practitioners. The program provides:

10 Community CME Events per Year – Evening sessions that include dinner, creating an opportunity to explore key medical topics while connecting with colleagues in an informal setting. 10 Hospital Rounds per Year – Morning sessions at the hospital focused on case discussions, emerging trends, best practices, and innovations in patient care.

Priority is given to emerging trends, innovative treatments, and best practices in patient care. In addition to enhancing medical knowledge, participation in RCME fosters professional connections and strengthens the local healthcare community.

Advanced Access Scheduling

Alcohol Use Disorder

An Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) continuing medical education was held in September 2018 in the Comox Valley. The following resources have been made available.
