- About Community Rural Continuing Medical Education (RCME) Program
-
The Community Rural Continuing Medical Education (RCME) Program is a provincial initiative supported by the Joint Standing Committee (JSC) on Rural Issues, designed to enhance medical knowledge, improve clinical skills, and foster collaboration among healthcare professionals in rural communities.
In the Comox Valley Division, the RCME program is led by Dr. Kevin Swanson and offers structured learning opportunities tailored to the needs of family physicians and nurse practitioners. The program provides:
10 Community CME Events per Year – Evening sessions that include dinner, creating an opportunity to explore key medical topics while connecting with colleagues in an informal setting. 10 Hospital Rounds per Year – Morning sessions at the hospital focused on case discussions, emerging trends, best practices, and innovations in patient care. For more information, please reach out to Judy Darby.
The program is shaped by the expertise and experience of local healthcare providers, ensuring that topics remain relevant and responsive to current medical challenges. Priority is given to emerging trends, innovative treatments, and best practices in patient care. In addition to enhancing medical knowledge, participation in RCME fosters professional connections and strengthens the local healthcare community.
