KB Division helps practitioners meet patient & practice needs, leads change in an evolving primary care system, & works with partners to shape a better future for health care in Kootenay Boundary, & BC. Projects are aimed within our four strategic pillars: Clinic Supports, Team Based Care, Clinic Operations, & Engaged Community. We also host & administrate regional Shared Care projects. Recruitment & Retention

To support Kootenay Boundary clinics to attract and retain physicians to support primary care needs across our local communities, including a new community ambassador to better integrate new physicians into their communities.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

To coordinate, develop and deliver robust regional CPD opportunities for Kootenay Boundary physicians, nurse practitioners, and medical staff.

KB CPD Events Calendar >

Clinic Services Hub
To coordinate supports to clinics, including digital health, financial optimization and back-end HR, and to share information between PSP, KB Division, and PCN leadership staff members interacting with Primary Care clinics to ensure optimized supports and streamlined communications for clinicians, while avoiding unnecessary duplication.

Digital Health
To support clinics to optimize use of EMRs, forms and videoconferencing, ensure access to specialist information and support clinics in communicating with their patients via the provision of a suite of digital health supports.

Emergency Preparedness

To provide as needed support for clinic emergencies. In the event of an environmental disaster or other emergency, contact the KB Division of Family Practice to assess the situation and identify areas of support.

Financial Analysis & Support
To help family physicians understand and improve their financial performance and overhead conversations, ultimately contributing to a better work/life balance and the sustainability of Kootenay Boundary primary care physicians.

Practitioner 2 Practitioner (P2P) Dinners
To support KB Division member-driven social events at the clinic, community and regional level to discuss matters of importance to clinics and clinicians. Catering will be provided. Interested in organizing an event? Let us know! Get your request in soon, funding is limited & only available until March 31, 2024 for this pilot program.

MOA Supports
To improve Medical Office Assistant (MOA) work satisfaction by building capacity through clinic efficiencies and by offering wellness activities. An indirect goal is to see strong retention of KB MOAs achieved in part through project activities.

Primary Care Network (PCN)

To support a clinical network of primary care providers, focused on team-based care with co-located GPs, NPs, Allied Health and other clinical staff working together to increase patient attachment and improve patient care, access, and cultural safety in Kootenay Boundary.

KB Cultural Safety
To cultivate approaches to care that contribute to cultural safety for all Indigenous patients in Kootenay Boundary. This project is held in shared partnership inclusive of KB primary Care Network,  Kootenay Boundary Aboriginal Services Collaborative, & Circle of Indigenous Nations Society.

Measurement System for Physician Quality Improvement (QI) Pilot
To explore how the use of primary care data sets from private clinics can be utilized to improve primary care, and to document and understand the governance and administrative processes required to enable the secure extraction, sharing, and linking of those data sets.

KB Patient Advisory Committee and Community (PACC)

To support the work of the KB Patient Advisory Committee & Community (PACC) - 'people working together to bring patient voices on important issues to health care providers & policymakers in our region in order to strengthen patient and family centred care'. PACC works with partners including the BC Patient Voices Network, KB Division, Interior Health, the Collaborative Services Committee, and more. Participation is inclusive and open to all KB residents

Gender Affirming Care

To develop strategies to empower local primary care and specialist providers to coordinate gender affirming care for patients with diverse gender identities, and to access resources available to support them in this. To work with Trans Care BC to promote educational opportunities and awareness of provincial resources available for health professionals and patients.

Palliative Care
To improve the integration of palliative care into Healthcare Providers’ practices in both acute and community settings, increase the number of Serious Illness Conversations and Goals of Care plans being initiated, and create clearly documented pathways for providers and patients to better navigate our local system.

Child Wellness
To enhance care for children and youth who are victims of abuse and violence and their siblings locally by exploring improvements needed to build clinical teams to provide wellness assessments, improve access to longitudinal care, and develop communication and training for providers.
