RACE, or Rapid Access to Consultative Expertise, is a website and App that enables Family Physicians and Nurse Practitioners to speak with a specialist when they need urgent advice. 

RACE specialists connect with FPs within two hours of receiving the request and offer advice that can help Family Physicians to manage their patients in-office. 

A 2021 report found that:

• 74% of calls avoided an Emergency Department visit, and
• 76% of calls avoided a referral to a specialist.

*Note: RACE is intended for accessing urgent specialist advice, and is not an expedited referral tool. 

RACE conversations are billable, using billing code PG14018 (Family Physician Urgent Telephone Advice from a Physician with Consultative Expertise – $40.00).
