Surrey Welcomes 50 new Family Doctors
Now is a good time to find a primary care provider

Surrey, BC
On the heels of Premier David Eby’s news conference today, the Surrey-North Delta Division of Family Practice has confirmed that it will welcome over 50 new Family Physicians (FPs) to Surrey and North Delta by the end of September.
"This is monumental, and a confirmation that Surrey-North Delta has a lot to offer Family Physicians," says Tomas Reyes, the Division's Chief Executive Officer. “Surrey-North Delta has a thriving Primary Care Network, a brand new medical school, and uncapped opportunity to build your dream career, all supported by compensation models that make sense for the ways FPs practice. Our community really is the complete package.”
The news is especially welcome in Surrey, which has been particularly impacted by the ongoing shortage of Family Physicians in Canada; an estimated 160,000 people in Surrey and North Delta don't have a Family Physician or Nurse Practitioner and many who do travel to other communities for their appointments. This can make it more difficult to access health services when they are needed and carries a greater risk of health conditions going unnoticed and untreated; studies have shown that being connected with a primary care provider who knows your medical history leads to better health outcomes.
Reyes acknowledges that the primary care crisis may have discouraged some Surrey and Delta residents from even trying to find a Family Doctor. But the landscape is changing. "If you live in Surrey-North Delta and you don't have a Family Doctor or Nurse Practitioner in our community, now is a great time to get connected."
