Central Intake/Pooled Referrals Start January 13, 2020 at Surrey Comprehensive Orthopaedics

The orthopaedic surgeons at Surrey Comprehensive have been working together to improve access and decrease consultation wait times for both surgical and non-surgical patients. This initiative is supported by a grant from the Specialist Services Committee (SSC) to improve patient access to specialists.

What will Central Intake and Pooled Referrals for orthopaedic candidates mean to me and my patients?

  • A single fax number for all referrals that services at Surrey Comprehensive: 604-398-6356
  • Referrals will be centrally triaged and, if indicated, assigned to the first available surgeon.
  • Clear requirements of what satisfies the referral criteria for orthopaedic patients.
  • Acknowledgement of all referrals back to the referring MD.
  • Direct communication with patients to expedite appointments and any required diagnostic testing.

IMPORTANT CHANGES

  1. Effective immediately, you will need to complete the attached NEW referral form along with the requested diagnostic imaging (see referral form for specific body part). Referrals sent without updated imaging will be declined.
  2. You will receive an acknowledgement letter within 2 business days
  3. In the event that required information is not provided, the referral will be returned to the referring physician.
  4. We will directly contact your patient to book an appointment and any required tests.
