As an Island Health rural "C" community, our family physicians that live and work in Central Island may be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA) including:

Oceanside Health Centre, Parksville BC 1 Full-Time Physicians

Oceanside Primary Care Network (PCN) is opening a clinic in Parksville, BC.  

The PCN is seeking 1 full time family physician to join this new practice. This clinic will enjoy all the benefits of a PCN including a team-based care model with an in-practice RN. 

This clinic will be in the Oceanside Health Centre, in beautiful Parksville, BC. The clinic space is large and bright, with spacious examination rooms and ample office space. Easy access to in-building services such as medical imaging and Lifelabs. 

Nearby is the huge oceanside trail network, for both hiking and biking, as well as our beautiful beaches. 

After hours and on-call expectations: Member of the community on-call group, expected call rotation about once monthly. 

Patient population: General patient population, consisting of all ages and complexities. Oceanside and area utilize the Healthlink Health Connect Registry to quickly and equitably manage the patient waitlist and as a tool to build your practice 

Attachment: The practitioner will be the most responsible primary care provider for a minimum patient panel as described in the New To Practice (NTP) contract template 

Additional sites for contract services: Optional long-term care facilities and patient home. 

Qualifications: Fully licensed to practice in BC. Will also accept provisionally licensed physicians. 

Overhead arrangements or office agreements: Overhead will be the $75,000 included in the NTP contract. The Practice Agreement is in the NTP Primary Care Service Contract template

Flowerstone Family Health Clinic 1 full time Nurse Practitioner

The Flowerstone Family Health Clinic (FFHC) is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join a team of NPs delivering longitudinal primary care to patients in the Oceanside area. FFHC is located in Qualicum Beach, and aims to provide attachment for community members in the Oceanside area (Bowser, Nanoose Bay, Errington, Coombs, Parksville, and Qualicum First Nations) who currently do not have a primary care provider.

In this service contract position the Nurse Practitioner will participate as a part of an inter-professional team that includes medical office assistants, a registered nurse, and a clinical pharmacist. We work closely with local physician specialists, community health authority services and other health care services. We hope to expand our team based care model to include more allied health care providers and physicians.

The Flowerstone Family Health Clinic is part of the Oceanside PCN that operatives in partnership with the Central Island Division of Family Practice, Island Health, and First Nations Health Authority.

NP-Primary Care Clinic attributes include:

  • Implementing processes to ensure all people in a community have access to quality primary care and are attached to a primary care provider within their community
  • Delivery of extended hours of care, including early mornings, evenings and weekends
  • Delivery of same-day access for urgently needed primary care through the NP-PCC
  • Delivery of comprehensive primary care services through a team-based care approach
  • Collaborative and coordinated care with diagnostic services, hospital care, specialty care and community services for all patients

1 Full-time or 2 Part-time

One full time or two part time physicians required to take over a well-established panel of 800 patients by September 2024. Opportunity to expand if desired. There is also the option to participate in hospital or ER work if interested. The options to diversify your practice with long-term care patients, addictions medicine, palliative care, and other allied services are available. Low overhead structure compliments generous payment options including LFP or NTP contracts, along with Fee for Service billing as required. 

This practice is located in the West Coast Medical Centre. There are currently 4 full-service family physicians on site. This building is also home to a pharmacy, Lifelabs and a Walk-in Clinic. One full-time family physician is required to take over an existing practice with a patient panel of 1700 in beautiful Port Alberni. The current physician is planning on retirement but is happy to stay on through the transition.  This bright, modern clinic uses MedAccess EMR. There are 2 experienced and friendly Medical Office Assistants. This practice is a part of a larger group of independently working physicians who cover each other during vacation times.

West Coast General Hospital Community Hospital Inpatient Physician

The West Coast General Hospital (WCGH) is seeking family physicians to join our ‘Community Hospital Inpatient Physician’ (CHIP) team. Full time or part time positions are available. In this role CHIP team members will act as MRP care for unattached & unassigned inpatients to the Family Practice service at WCGH. This includes rounding on inpatients to the service, arranging service transfers and inter-facility repatriations, discharge planning and responding to urgent calls for admitted patients under this service. CHIP team members will evaluate, diagnose, treat, and provide consultation to patients of all ages, with a wide variety of illnesses, diseases, injuries, and functional disorders, providing both direct and indirect patient care. Orchard Medical Centre, located in Port Alberni, has an opportunity for an additional physician to start a new practice or consider taking over an established patient panel from the current physician who is considering eventual retirement. As they transition to full retirement, the current physician is interested in providing part-time clinic hours. The clinic is located in a 3-level building which is owned by the current physician. The existing family practice of 43 years is paper-based, with electronic billing. This allows you to choose your own preferred EMR, if desired.

Priority Response Team Physicians

Part time or full time  family physicians

The Oceanside Primary Care Network is seeking family practitioners to work collaboratively together as a group and with other health care providers (e.g. registered nurses, occupational therapists, and clinical pharmacists) as members of a Priority Response Team (PRT).  This team will provide primary care consultative services, to include clinical assessments and care planning, for local patients in their homes 365 days per year.

The Priority Response Team (PRT), in partnership with Oceanside’s community health care teams, supports the provision of expedited primary care to patients in Oceanside’s small and rural communities. 

The group of physicians will be expected to collectively provide 2,520 hours of clinical services per fiscal year.  Patient care will be provided for about 7 hours each day generally between 1000 and 1800, however, actual hours may vary from day to day as flexibility of hours may be necessary to ensure a priority response for patient care. The physicians will manage their shared schedule and hours to effectively, efficiently, and timely; provide care for patients, with the aim of preventing patients’ hospital admissions or facilitating patients’ discharges from hospital.

In this group service contract position the family practitioner will share after-hours coverage with the other practitioners of the PRT.
