Central Island Physician Career Opportunities
As part of the mid-island region, Central Island enjoys the benefit of airport and ferry services both to the north and south, within a 30-minute drive in each direction. Central Island residents enjoy the safety and security of quieter, quaint community living, mountain vistas, lakeside communities and warm, calm beaches facing the Georgia Strait - take your pick!
We are considered rural communities, so our region offers recruitment incentives to physicians who live and work in the area. An older population in our beautiful beachside communities means that practicing here, in addition to Island Health's rural fee top-ups and incentives, also results in significantly higher MSP billings per visit (37% of our population being in the 65+ age demographic).
Looking for more work/life balance? Parksville and Qualicum Beach's on-call after hours rota requires only about 1 day/month, and without a hospital in the immediate community (Nanaimo Regional General Hospital is 30 minutes south), you can practice during the day, and still have ample time for your own family and pursuits.
Wanting to keep those Emergency Medicine skills sharp? Port Alberni has the West Coast General Hospital, where family physicians also have the opportunity to work ER shifts at the hospital. With the most affordable real estate on the island, Port Alberni is an extremely attractive area to practice medicine.
