News, Feb 24th, 2021 | With COVID-19 vaccines currently being administered to high-risk populations in BC, many Kootenay Boundary patients have questions - including who gets it and when. We reached out to local family doc Lee MacKay following his recent meet with the team leading the BC COVID-19 vaccination program for his advice.
“Having had the pleasure of meeting with Dr. Penny Ballum, and her team, leading the COVID-19 mass vaccination program for BC last week, I would ask Kootenay Boundary residents to be patient as the government launches a historic vaccine roll-out.
Starting at the beginning of April, 172 communities in BC will host mass immunization clinics - providing over 250,000 vaccines per week. Everything is being planned carefully to ensure everyone in BC can get immunized as quickly and safely as possible.
At this time, due to refrigeration requirements, your family doctor or nurse practitioner cannot provide vaccines through their office, but you are likely to see them providing immunizations at the mass clinics!
Instead of calling your doctor’s office, you’ll find the most up-to-date information for when and how you can get vaccinated on the government website at https://www.gov.bc.ca/covidvaccine or by calling 1-888-268-4319.
The website and phone line to pre-book your vaccine, according to your age, are planned for launch mid-March.” - Dr. Lee MacKay
Please continue to do all you can to prevent the spread of the virus and to keep you and your loved ones safe.
