Project Objectives

Primary objectives

  • Development of a document/website or other mechanisms to show the mental health and substance use services and supports for children, youth, and families in Kootenay Boundary.
  • Increase of 30% in the number of family physicians participating in the PSP CYMH Module.
  • Increase the number of children and youth with moderate to serious mental illness who receive triage within three days, followed by assessment and treatment plan implementation within two weeks.

Secondary objectives

  • Support the seamless transition of youth with mental health and substance use disorders into adult services.
  • Provide standardized youth screening tools, education support, and referral pathways for primary care.
  • Agree upon and implement a standardized protocol and process for children and youth in crisis who attend an emergency room for mental health or substance use problems.
  • Commit to creating an open, transparent system that welcomes young people and families to seek support and work together for best results.
