Is this your first baby? If so, come join our FREE pilot program for group prenatal and postpartum care! If this is your first baby, and your due date is between September 15 and December 15, 2020 you are invited to join a group of 8-12 with a similar due date. We are a team of passionate physicians, midwives, nurses and lactation consultants all working together to serve you.

How it works

Group Prenatal Care

  • Replaces your regular prenatal appointments
  • 9 evening prenatal sessions and 2 postpartum sessions
  • Continuity of care with the same maternity care providers
  • Includes free prenatal education, discussion, snacks, guest speakers and socializing
  • Postpartum and baby care visits with registered midwives and physicians
  • Infant feeding and postpartum support with registered nurses and lactation consultants
  • Labour and deliveries attended by the physicians of TRFO (Thompson Region Family Obstetric) group
  • In the event of a pregnancy complication, extra prenatal visits will be organized with the TRFO clinic and appropriate referrals and investigations organized.

Research has shown group prenatal care, decreases labour interventions, decreases caesarean sections, decreases length of hospital stay, increases breastfeeding success, increases overall satisfaction and social support.

  • Your initial visit would be with the TRFO group physicians
  • Group prenatal care would start around 15-20 weeks of pregnancy
  • Meetings are scheduled for 2 hours in the evening to accommodate daytime commitments
  • Welcome to bring your partner or support person
  • Initially meetings are once a month and then later in pregnancy, two evenings a month
  • At every group there is private one-on-one check up time with a midwife and/or physician for a “belly check” and confidential review of any tests
