Pre-Term Care Initiative
In 2020, the Campbell River and District Division of Family Practice formed a working group including local family physicians, an OBGYN, and a midwife. This team worked to develop content for public-education resources as well as update and streamline best practices for patient care.
The resources developed include:
- An Early Pregnancy Loss Trifold Brochure around signs, what to expect, what options and resources are available, etc. Also available as an Early Pregnancy Loss Two Page Handout, same information in an emailable format.
- A poster offering Tips on Preventing a Birth Before 37 Weeks of Pregnancy and a matching Rack Card. This was created in response to the North Island having higher than the BC average number of cases of preterm births. These resources (digital and printed), can be requested by emailing campbellriverdistrict@divisionsbc.ca.
2021 has granted us the opportunity to enhance obstetrical care through training, mentoring, and collaboration with allied health care workers through ROAM (Rural Obstetrical and Maternity Sustainability Program) funding. Planning is underway and projects and successes will be reported here at the close of the project.
2021 has also granted the Division funding in support of perinatal mental health through Shared Care. The aim is to identify gaps in current perinatal mental health supports and to create sustainable peer to peer supports as well as physician guided groups.
If you have questions about the maternity projects, please email Emily Sayward, Project Manager here.
