Dyan Dunsmoor-Farley

Dyan Dunsmoor-Farley has a PhD from the University of Victoria with undergraduate degrees in music (University of British Columbia) and interdisciplinary studies including sociology, political science, history, and human geography (Athabasca University and University of Victoria). Her interdisciplinary work examines rural community self-governance strategies in response to the ruptures triggered by global capital. Prior to starting her doctoral studies Dyan held senior positions in the British Columbia government in the Ministries of Health, Families and Children and Women’s Equality.

Dyan currently works as an independent researcher and consultant. In addition to her involvement with the Rural and Remote Division of Family Practice, Dyan serves on the Gabriola Health Care Foundation board, the Gabriola Health and Wellbeing Collaborative, Sustainable Gabriola and the Naut-sa mawt Oceanside Wellness Networks. Dyan has lived on the shores of the Salish Sea (British Columbia, Canada) and sailed extensively through its archipelagos for over 40 years as well as trans-Atlantic and Pacific voyaging with her family.
