The Division works collaboratively with key partners to identify challenges and opportunities for improving after-hours and urgent care on the North Shore. This work focuses on exploring solutions to the shortage of after-hours care and its effects on the Urgent Primary Care Centre, walk-in clinics, and the Lions Gate Hospital Emergency Department.
Completed initiatives
Working with family physicians, emergency physicians, radiologists, and Vancouver Coastal Health, the Division has developed resources that help family physicians manage urgent concerns in the community and coordinate care with Lions Gate Hospital:
- PrevEd Resource helps family physicians manage common urgent presentations in the community. It was co-created by family and emergency physicians.
- ED Referral Form improves the consistency and quality of clinical information sent with patients referred to the Emergency Department.
- Urgent CT and Ultrasound Pathway gives family physicians direct access to same-day imaging for urgent cases.
- Diagnostic Imaging Messaging lets family physicians message radiologists directly through Pathways BC with questions about test results.
