Recruiting New Family Doctors to Our Community
With several doctors in our community planning for retirement in the coming years, our Division is actively recruiting new doctors to call White Rock-South Surrey home. Dr Werner Spangehl, Physician Recruitment Lead, and Kay Abelson, Project Coordinator, are collaborating with Health Match BC on these efforts.
Recruitment is strongly supported by the following local and provincial partners:
- The Peace Arch Hospital Foundation has supported the Division with up to $10,000 annually for three years from the Foundation’s Magnet Hospital Designated Fund to support the family doctor recruitment and retention partnership, including the locum program.
The Foundation also offers the Dr. Al Hogg Legacy Fund Family Practice Bursary to attract medical residents to practice long-term in White Rock-South Surrey. First-year residents interested in spending up to eight weeks in the area during their second-year elective can apply for the bursary, which allows the resident to experience what our community has to offer while completing their elective in family medicine.
- Fraser Health Authority offers a relocation allowance of up to $10,000 to new recruits coming from out of province. This allowance is only available to full-service family doctors who obtain active hospital privileges.
We look forward to welcoming new locums and family doctors to our community and our Division. For more information, contact us at email@example.com.

Why Join Our Community?
White Rock-South Surrey is a beautiful seaside community conveniently located 45 minutes from downtown Vancouver and 10 minutes from the US border. It offers rural living in areas such as Hazelmere Valley, as well as suburban residential neighbourhoods boasting a vibrant selection of well-known and independent retailers, restaurants, entertainment options, and amenities.
Our community is the perfect place for people of all ages. Home to many seniors, White Rock-South Surrey is also one of the fastest-growing areas in BC, with many young families. We have excellent schools, sporting facilities, and an active arts community.
We also have Peace Arch Hospital, a 160-bed full-service hospital with a strong Department of General Practice. Many of the local family doctors have full admitting privileges and are actively involved in the care of their hospitalized patients.
With virtually all local family doctors choosing to become members of our Division, we are able to support each other as colleagues and collaborate on the priorities we identify to further enhance the delivery of health care in our area.
