VGH’s Urgent Antenatal Care Clinic - Information

March 23, 2023

The following has been sent to our Division on behalf of Dr. Hayley Bos, Regional Perinatal Medical Director, Island Health

Dear South Island Family Practice and Midwifery Providers,

VGH’s Urgent Antenatal Care Clinic (the Clinic) has been developed to provide antenatal care to pregnant women and pregnant individuals who are without a primary maternity care provider. Local Family Doctors and Midwives are working extra shifts to support unattached patients to receive antenatal care.

At the Clinic, pregnant patients will be cared for by a rotation of primary maternity care providers for both antenatal care and labour and delivery. Patients will not be assigned a specific care provider.

Work is underway to increase perinatal patient capacity within the South Island primary maternity care provider teams. When availability exists in local maternity care teams, the goal is to attach patients receiving care through this Clinic. We acknowledge that at this time, availability is slim.
