National Indigenous Peoples Day & Month

June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day and the full month of June is National Indigenous History Month!

While National Indigenous Peoples Day was first nationally recognized in 1996, Indigenous peoples and communities have been honouring their culture and heritage for generations, traditionally in alignment with the Summer Solstice - the longest day of the year. This is a day for all Canadians to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.
