Dr. Ami BrosseauMy name is Dr. Ami Joseph Brosseau and I am interested in putting my name forward for nomination for the Victoria Division of Family Practice. My interest lies in equity and social justice and I hope to be able to help with the division’s work towards cultural safety. I am a family practitioner at the Cool Aid Community Health Center and the Victoria Native Friendship Center. I am a proud indigenous father and husband, and together with my amazing wife Amanda we have raised two beautiful Métis sons here in Victoria. I practice primary care for marginalized communities and try to help my patients navigate the multiple barriers present within this medical system that we are all part of. We can all learn from each other to make this system better. Better for our patients and better for us. Thank you for taking the time to review my nomination. |
Dr. Sarah Chritchley |
Dr. Sarah ChritchleyPrior to establishing my full-service longitudinal family practice in 2010, I experienced many areas of family medicine. I have performed clinical work in a dialysis unit, assisted at surgeries, worked on a team at a community health centre and performed episodic care at walk in clinics. As a result of these varied experiences, I understand the challenges faced by family physicians working in different environments and believe we need to collaborate to improve the system. However, reflecting on my 24 year career, I know that my heart lies in the patient-physician relationship that exists so uniquely in full service community family practice. Longitudinal primary care has been critically undervalued. It must be renumerated appropriately and supported by the greater medical community in order to entice family doctors to return to work in patient medical homes where they are desperately needed. My goal is to join the board of the Victoria Division of Family Practice to strongly advocate for community family doctors and make full-service family practice the most attractive job for family physicians. Until this happens, we cannot solve the primary care crisis. I envision the Victoria Division a place where all voices are welcome resulting in debate and innovation. I have been involved in many roles and committees since the inception of the Victoria Division of Family Practice. I was the Co-Chair of the Community Building Committee organizing and facilitating the Dine & Learn events along with other projects. I am a member of the Patient Medical Home Steering Committee, Practice Support Committee and multiple working groups. The Victoria Division of Family Practice has improved my professional life in countless ways. I aim to continue and contribute to their vital work, support my colleagues to build a sustainable PCN which will increase access to medical care to patients and support family doctors to do our vital work. I would be honoured to serve on the Board of Directors of Victoria Division of Family Practice. |
Dr. Melissa Duff |
Dr. Melissa DuffThank you for the opportunity to apply for the Victoria Divisions of Family Practice Board of Directors. Over my 14 years of practice, I have assumed many roles including emergency medicine, military medicine, hospitalist, walk in clinic doctor, clinical instructor, and general practice, in both rural and urban settings within Alberta and British Columbia. I am committed to the promotion of the health of all British Columbians, but especially indigenous and vulnerable communities. The Divisions of Family Practice is an essential resource to support family physicians in their task of serving patients and communities, which often includes unique stresses and an impressive burnout rate. As a female physician and mother of three, I have had real world experience balancing the complexities of medicine with the stresses of daily life. I have a true and deep understanding of the many struggles in this career which I can use on the Board of Directors to help find tangible solutions to the problems we face as physicians as we serve our communities. Thank you so much for considering me to represent you on the Board. |
Dr. David Harrison |
Dr. David HarrisonFamily Medicine is the bedrock of the Canadian universal health care system. This bedrock is formed upon by its Family Physicians with the support of their family and staff. As a board member of the Victoria Division, I will dedicate my time, energy and passion to make the lives of Family Physicians and those they support better. |
Mr. Peter Lockie (incumbent) |
Mr. Peter Lockie (incumbent)Peter has been a VDFP board member for four years and is the only non-physician board member. He is currently VDFP Treasurer, chairs the Finance and Audit Committee and the Human Resources Committee and is a member of the Executive Committee. He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Edinburgh and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland. He is currently President of Inverleith Consulting Inc., which provides a range of management consulting services to provincial, municipal and not for profit organizations. Previously Peter worked at Camosun College for fifteen years, most recently as Interim President and prior to that as Vice President, Administration and Chief Financial Officer. He is currently Secretary/Treasurer of Canadian Scientific Submersible Facility, an international operator of a remotely operated submersible vehicle and 94 Forward, which manages the legacy funds of the 1994 Victoria Commonwealth Games. He is personally committed to community involvement and has been Board Chair, Treasurer and a Director of the United Way of Greater Victoria, the Victoria Cool Aid Society and the Pacific Institute for Sport. Peter believes that the inclusion of a suitably qualified and experienced non-physician brings additional value and a different perspective to the board which contributes to strengthening its overall governance function. |
Dr. Anna Mason |
Dr. Anna MasonI can summarize my candidate statement in three words: I am ready. I am ready to be a leader in my community to represent and fight for full-service family medicine. I am ready to advocate for unattached patients to get the primary medical care they deserve. I am ready to collaborate and discover innovative solutions to care for unattached patients. I am ready to operationalize team-based care throughout our Victoria Primary Care Network. I am ready to work with our indigenous communities to ensure our programs are culturally sensitive. I am ready to listen to Victoria Division members to ensure the board is representing their needs. I am ready to understand the relationship with external stakeholders and to navigate negotiations calmly. I am ready to develop my foundational leadership and management skills to help my community. As I have sat on multiple Victoria Division committees and working groups I have been encouraged by other members to apply to the board for a few years. I have hesitated in years past as I didn’t feel driven to the work. The past 12 months have changed my perspective and now I feel I must get a seat at the table. I really want to do this work. I want to sit on a board that is going to fundamentally change family medicine delivery in Victoria for physicians and for patients. We all know we are beyond recruiting new family physicians to work in offices - now is the time to innovate. As a community of family physicians, we simply must not tolerate the inequity of primary care in our city. I feel we must ensure that unattached patients are no longer waiting in the rain at an overcapacity walk in clinic or are forced to use a low quality corporate medicine video service to get the care they desperately need. |
Dr. Perpetua Nwosu |
Dr. Perpetua NwosuFamily Medicine is the corner stone for sustaining health care delivery in every community. I believe that a well organised, and functional primary healthcare system has a significant impact in quality health care delivery and outcomes. I have decided to join the board to help with the work that is already in progress as we seek ways to meet the demand in our community health care delivery. I am a UK trained General Practitioner, MRCGP. I completed training in an era where a lot of emphasis was on Communication, Use of Technology in Primary Care, Primary Care Network, Family Physicians wellbeing and above all patient centred care. I have been in Victoria practicing as a Family Physician for 1 year. Within the past one year, I have worked in a walk-in clinic for 6 months- Quadra Village Medical, was part of Physician group who started the NQUPCC. I am also involved in the new Memory Clinic that has been recently set up. More recently, I moved into a retired Family Physician office and now work as a Solo Physician looking after approximately 1500 patients. I have been on this role for 7 months and remain encouraged by all the challenges I see daily. My interest in joining the board has been influenced by my experience both in the UK and more importantly the experience I have shared in the last one year working in Victoria. I feel I will bring new perspectives and ideas to the board for consideration, if I am fortunate to be a part of the team. I will like to see more advancement in Family Practice, and also more access and involvement of Family Physician in setting up healthcare delivery in our community. I will like to see a system where everyone in our community who needs care feels confident they know where to go and how to access available local resources. Go back to the top of the page ^

Dr. Irfan Rajani (incumbent) |
Dr. Irfan Rajani (incumbent)I am a new-to-practice physician in Victoria, and I am excited about continuing my involvement with the Victoria Divisions Board of Directors. I’ve served on the Board over the last two years as a resident member and feel honored to be a part of a group of such wonderful and passionate individuals. I continue to grow and learn from my experienced colleagues and endeavor to build upon my leadership and advocacy skills to effect positive health change within our community. As a resident I served as the Lead International Medical Graduates resident representative for the Victoria site, co-founded a program-wide IMG resident working group on racism and discrimination, and served on the IMG Advisory Committee at UBC. This included the formation of a subcommittee on racism and discrimination and grassroots efforts to identify policies and behaviours that disenfranchise residents. I also served on the Council of Program Representatives with Resident Doctors of BC. Previously, I have worked as a community pharmacist and worked with organizations such as the Canadian Liver Foundation, Heart & Stroke Foundation, and the non-profit science advocacy organization Bad Science Watch. I continue to be passionate about health promotion, advocacy, and leadership. I am interested in promoting physician and patient wellness by combating health misinformation by addressing widespread compassion fatigue. I endeavour to achieve this through grassroots efforts and actively engaging at the tables where decisions are made. I also have a strong interest in mental health and addictions, geriatrics, and improving transitions in care between specialists and primary care. I am excited to be back in my home province and to be afforded the opportunity to give back to our community. Go back to the top of the page ^
