Laurie Edmundson is the Project Lead of the Surrey-North Delta Local Action Team, part of the Child and Youth Mental Health and Substance Use (CYMHSU) Collaborative. Laurie’s interest in health and mental health started from an early age when she began volunteering at her high schools counselling department, and went into university to study Psychology. She took particular interest in forensic psychology, and ended up finishing her degree with a joint major in Criminology and Psychology. She also worked in multiple research labs at Simon Fraser University, with a particular heart for Dr. Alexander Chapman’s Personality and Emotion Research Lab.
Laurie and the Surrey-North Delta Local Action Team have a particular focus on the successful engagement of youth with lived experience of mental health and substance use challenges and including them in program development. An advocate for patients as partners in system change, Laurie often aids organizations with their goals of engaging patients successfully.
In addition to her work with the CYMHSU Collaborative, Laurie assists with Health Promotion Initiatives at the Division and is in charge of communications. While not at the Division, she promotes mental health and wellness in the community, this year touring the Lower Mainland with the Stigma Free Society in addition to her other mental health advocacy work.
