Seize this part-time Family Practice contract opportunity in Kalso, BC!
Our two full-time service contracts are shared by 4 collegial family physicians allowing for a very comfortable practice and plenty of time for outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy this beautiful area. Our physicians provide primary care, urgent care and ER services. Rural incentives are in addition to the contract, and the office space, administrative support, and overhead costs are provided by Interior Health. We schedule our work week over 7 and the hours are 9-5 (no evening or night shifts). Kaslo physicians can access the provisional Rural GP Locum Program RGPLP for vacation coverage.
The Victorian Community Health Centre is part of the Primary Care Network (PCN) and provides social work support, primary health nursing, group medical visits, chronic disease management, physiotherapy, mental health, public health nursing, and home and community care. The Centre has a 3-bed Emergency Room, an 18-bed residential care facility with 2 beds for Palliative Care (one doubling as respite care). Acute in-patient care and obstetrics are provided by physicians who practice at the Kootenay Lake Hospital one hour away. Lab and X-ray services are provided 2 days a week. Visiting health professionals include an occupational therapist, a respiratory technician, a foot care nurse, a diabetes education nurse, a dental hygienist, and a dietician.
This part-time (.33 - .50 FTE) salaried position can be combined with other current opportunities such as a contract to conduct Geriatric Assessments in the same region, and/or to lead the Eating Disorder Multidisciplinary Clinic. Other general and subspecialty part-time options are also available.
Kaslo is a picturesque community where outdoor adventure options are virtually limitless. Drive times to major centres are 1 hour to Nelson, 1.5 hours to the airport in Castlegar, and 5 hours to Kelowna.

COMMUNITY
Driving into Kaslo for the first time, you might think you are entering a fairy tale. The awe-inspiring Purcell Mountains form the backdrop, the quaint village with its heritage homes, shops, eateries, and artisans are tucked at their base, and the north arm of Kootenay Lake stretches out before you, inviting you to adventure.
It’s not a dream. Kaslo is very much a real place, a place where community matters. Located 70 kilometers north of Nelson on the shores of Kootenay Lake, Kaslo is where neighbours know each other and help each other. A place that is rich with culture, history, and community spirit.
Take the popular local attraction, the Kaslo River Trail, for example, a local walking trail with two covered pedestrian bridges, playful sculptures by BC artists, and stunning views of the river and mountains. This ambitious, multi-stage project was conceived by a group of community members and constructed through thousands of volunteer hours and donations from across Canada and the world.
In addition to walking trails, Kaslo boasts mountain biking and Nordic ski trails and a mountain bike skills park for the whole family. The community provides easy access to high alpine hiking routes, such as the popular Monica Meadows and Jumbo Pass. There are several helicopter and cat-skiing operations based in Kaslo, providing access to 125,000 acres of untouched mountain terrain.
Community festivals, including May Days and the Kaslo Jazz Festival, draw visitors from all over the region. Kaslo’s main street runs parallel to the lake, where the local marina, beaches, and campground offer no end of opportunities for fun on the water, including kayaking, paddle boarding, pleasure boating, and even houseboat rentals.
The nearby Ainsworth Hot Springs was a site of respite and healing for the Ktunaxa people, who stopped here for thousands of years as part of their seasonal migration through their traditional territory. The Yaqan Nukiy Band of Creston now owns and operates the resort, offering indigenous-inspired fine dining and a spa and hotel in addition to soaks in the hot springs.
