Golden and Kicking Horse Country in British Columbia is a mountain town just 2.5 hours’ drive west of Calgary AB with a population of around 8000.

Surrounded by the Canadian Rockies and Columbia Mountains it is perfectly located at the junction of the historic Kicking Horse and Columbia Rivers. Nestled between Yoho and Glacier National Parks, Golden BC offers adventure for everyone, from hiking, whitewater rafting and mountain biking in the summer, to downhill skiing at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, snowmobiling and heli-skiing in the winter.

There are no fancy shopping malls here, but three mountain ranges, two historic rivers and six mountain parks coupled with a real mountain community makes for an unforgettable experience.

Medical Community:

The Golden & District Hospital (GDH) is a level 1 community hospital providing emergency and obstetrical services, with surgical capacity. The Hospital has 8 acute care beds, a full service 24/7 emergency department and an ambulatory care clinic. Home care nursing, home support and diagnostic services are operated from within the facility, including lab, x-ray and ultrasound. Public health, mental health, physiotherapy, and part time pharmacy and dietician support are co-located in the hospital. Visiting specialists (ENT, OB/GYNE, Pediatricians, Internal Medicine specialists, Psychiatrists, Orthopedic Surgeons) offer periodic consultation clinics from the Hospital.

The single medical clinic in town has 14 physicians: 13 GP FTEs plus 1 experienced general surgeon (20+ years).
