Dr. Charuka Maheswaran graduated medical school in 2000 and after working in several countries settled in the Comox Valley in 2013. Charuka operates a full-service family practice and believes health education and advocacy are the cornerstones of a cohesive and kind society. She joined the Division’s board with the goal of ensuring family doctors’ voices and patient perspectives play a role in shaping the delivery of health care.
Charuka enjoys island life, having been born on Sri Lanka, grown up in Great Britain, and now raises her three rambunctious children on Vancouver Island. She is involved in several committees at provincial level, but finds the grassroots activist aspect of the Divisions particularly rewarding and vital to ensuring that health care is delivered by us and not to us.
