Denman Island is one of the northern gulf islands situated about a 12-minute ferry ride off the east coast of Vancouver Island – just south of Courtenay/Comox.
This charming natural paradise is home to approximately 1100 full-time residents – chief among them, artists, craft people, farmers, academics and professionals – all bearing a large measure of self-reliance.
Famous for its varied festivals, community events and abundant potlucks, Denman Island loves to showcase its hospitality. Visitors flock to the island for the renowned Xmas Craft Fair, the hugely popular Readers and Writers Festival and the wildly successful conservancy fundraiser – the House and Garden Tour. Sporting events and dances are all-age affairs, reminiscent of earlier days. Concerts Denman brings international acts of the highest caliber to the Community Hall.
The island has a beautiful medical clinic that currently provides space for three part-time physicians, public health, a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner and varied counseling services. A volunteer board oversees management of the clinic.
On island Ambulance and Fire Services (first responders) round out emergency medical response. The Home and Community care team, serving Denman and Hornby islands is second to none.
