Hospital Privileges

Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre opened in 2008. The facility is one of the most technologically advanced in Canada. While most specialties are well represented on medical staff, family physicians remain at the core of care at ARHCC as most admitted patients are directly under the care of a family physician. We thus strongly encourage family physicians in the community to have active privileges at the hospital in their effort to provide a broad spectrum of care as part of full service family practice.

Great facilities, support from GP and specialist colleagues, and access to advanced testing make caring for patients here a satisfying experience. You can do as much or as little as you wish.

We believe so strongly in this model of care that we have pioneered a program for those patients that require hospital admission but don’t have a family physician with admitting privileges. The program, called the Hospital Care Physician program (HCP), is voluntarily staffed by family physicians in our community that have an interest in hospital care. It is financially supported income from the Ministry of Health as a stipend that allows for 24/7 coverage, and the participating physicians are also able to bill MSP for the care provided in the hospital. We are working hard to help make hospital privileges a "true privilege."

More information about the HCP can be found here.
