A GP For Me
The Thompson Region Division of Family Practices brought together family doctors from Kamloops and nearby rural communities. Together with Interior Health, municipal, and community partners, we’ve worked to improve local health care.
A GP for Me aimed to help more people get a family doctor, and better support vulnerable patients with complex health problems. Our division’s plans were created to meet the specific needs of the Thompson Region.
A GP for Me was an initiative of Doctors of BC and the Ministry of Health. It aimed to:
- Strengthen the continuous family physician-patient relationship.
- Better support the needs of vulnerable patients.
- Enable patients that want a family doctor to find one.
- Increase primary care capacity.
- Improve the delivery of primary care in our community.
Through A GP for Me, the Thompson Division worked to increase the capacity of local primary care by attracting and retaining new doctors and locums to our area, introducing nurses in family practices, improving systems to help people find a family doctor, and strengthening GP connections to specialist and community health services.
The Thompson Region’s A GP For Me program aimed to increase local access to family doctors through seven projects and has now completed. Click the links below for key accomplishments, lessons learned, and recommendations.
