Beth DeMaio - Interim Chapter Coordinator, Hazelton

Originally from Ontario, Beth grew up in Hamilton and quickly left to study Business Administration and Classical History at a rural university in Quebec. Of mixed European descent (think red-headed Scottish-Italian), Beth moved to BC in 2001 and settled in Hazelton on unceded Gitxsan territory in 2007. She lives and raises her two daughters in a home built on stolen land and is an active participant in the colonial system, though there are many things about present-day colonial structures she'd like to see change. After 10 plus years of leadership in the community economic development nonprofit sector, Beth supports the provider group in Hazelton as the Practice Support Coach and Wrinch Memorial MSA Project Manager and now as Interim Chapter Coordinator for Rural and Remote. Beth has been baking sourdough bread and growing (some) of her own food since well before the most recent pandemic. She admits, however, that 2020 showed a huge increase in time spent knitting.
