Physician Peer Support Program
The North Shore Division of Family Practice's Physician Peer Support program offers brief non-clinical support to physicians dealing with work or life-related stressors through trained physician peer supporters.
To submit a confidential request to access peer support, please click here.
Our peer supporters offer non-judgemental listening and non-clinical emotional support with life, work, and other issues. We aim to facilitate these confidential, non-clinical empathetic conversations between colleagues, where physicians feel safe to share issues they are experiencing with someone trained to listen. This program is not a replacement for clinical therapy and/or mentorship.
When might someone benefit from peer support?
Peer support might be helpful for physicians who experience work or life stressors and require emotional, non-judgemental support. Examples of these scenarios might be:
- Adverse clinical events
- Patient or college complaint
- Interpersonal/relational conflicts
- Acute life stressors impacting career
- Experience of discrimination or alienation/othering at work
- Struggles with burnout/moral injury
- Imposter syndrome
This service is not intended for crisis response. The Doctors of BC Physician Health Program is available 24/7 at 1 (800) 663-6729
