CBT Skills Group Patient Information

CBT is an evidence-based treatment for anxiety and depression. By examining how our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are inter-connected, we can learn to harness the power of our minds and bodies to change unhelpful patterns in our lives, for example:
•    Do emotions like fear or sadness sometimes rule your life?
•    Do you struggle with depression or anxiety, or repeat painful patterns in your life, even if they are ineffective?
•    Do you want to learn more about your mind, and how you can harness it to feel better?
•    If so, you may be interested in the new MSP funded CBT group.

CBT Skills Groups

Groups include up to 15 patients and are led by Physicians. Groups are held in a virtual classroom style setting using an interactive group process, without a lot of personal sharing as CBT is more about skill-based learning. Integration of learnings and new techniques is enhanced by weekly practice at home. You will be encouraged to notice and give yourself credit for your strengths and efforts, and in so doing develop a kinder, more supportive relationship with yourself.

How do I attend a group?

1.    Decide if you have the time and energy to complete an seven-week group (90-minutes/week) with 5-30 minutes of at home practice each week .
2.    Request a referral from your Primary Health Care Provide. Doctors and Nurse Practitioners can find the referral form on Pathways and must include a patient email.
3.    Complete a screening questionnaire with your Physician to determine if the group is suitable for you.
4.    Upon receiving a referral from your Physician, you will be contacted directly by email for the next available CBT group date, location, etc.
5.    Before starting the group, you will be asked to purchase a CBT workbook (cost $35.00) that has been designed specifically for this program and a $65 no show fee if you miss more than one class.
