Mission Division of Family Practice

A GP for Me

A GP for Me was a province-wide initiative funded jointly by the Government of BC and Doctors of BC. The initiative has ended, with important work continuing at the community level by local Divisions of Family Practice. The goals of the initiative were:

  • Enable everyone who wants a family doctor to find one.
  • Increase the capacity of the primary health care system.
  • Confirm and strengthen the continuous doctor-patient relationship, including better support for the needs of vulnerable patients.

Research shows that a strong primary care system, centered on continuous doctor-patient relationships, leads to the best health outcomes for patients and to a more sustainable health care.

The Mission Division of Family Practice is now coming to the end of the implementation phase of our work in A GP for Me initiative.

A GP for Me: Mission Community Health Care Survey

In fall 2014, the Mission Division of Family Practice invited residents to participate in a short Community Health Care Survey to share their experience in accessing family doctors in our community. This survey complemented another survey we undertook with local family doctors. Together, the input we received will help identify both needs and opportunities to enhance patient access to family doctors and improve the overall delivery of health care in our area.

We thank everyone who participated for taking the time to add your voice to the conversation. Your input will help shape the future of local health care for everyone in our community.
