Comox Valley Division of Family Practice

Westward Medical

We are a group of family physicians and allied health practitioners and we are looking to add one additional family doctor to our dynamic team.

Our clinic is patient-centered, and our aim is to create real partnerships with patients and our broader community. We strive to create a positive working environment for providers as well as staff, with an emphasis on work-life balance. We are interested in innovative models of care, including team-based care, virtual care, and group visits and workshops.

We have recently relocated our clinic into a stunning, custom-designed and renovated clinical space, with an emphasis on incorporating nature-inspired features, natural light, local art as well as new and modern clinic equipment and technology. We also have a garden and outdoor seating area for physicians, staff and patients to enjoy, and a staff washroom with a shower to support those wanting to add activity into their transportation or work day. To maximize the use of the space, each physician works out of one large clinic room, and there are shared work stations throughout the clinic.

We aim to leverage technology to streamline our workflows and to create office efficiencies to keep overhead low. We also intend to incorporate virtual visits permanently into our practices. We ask our physicians to work from home one day each week, although this could be negotiated if needed.

We use the modern Telus CHR (formerly InputHealth), which seamlessly integrates video visits, online booking, and automated appointment reminders within the EMR system as well as secure messaging with patients. Additional features such as customizable encounter templates and virtual patient questionnaires further reduce administration and charting time and improve patient experience.

We are active members of our community's growing patient care network (PCN), and have incorporated allied health members into our team, including an RN, social worker, mental health clinician, pharmacist, and dietitian. We also have two private allied health practitioners at our clinic - a registered dietitian and a clinical counsellor. We consider quality improvement and innovation to be integral aspects of our clinic's practice, and the right fit for our clinic will be someone who is actively engaged and shares these interests.

We have management and billing support experience with all remuneration systems currently available in the province: Fee for Service, Group Salary Contract, New to Practice Contracts, as well as Longitudunal Family Practice payment model.

Given the attachment crisis in our community, and across the province, we are prioritizing bringing on a physician who is able to attach new patients and build a practice.

This region has endless opportunities for outdoor exploration and recreation, and boasts truly incredible natural beauty, to be enjoyed all year long.

The rapid growth of this area brings with it a real vitality, as well as an ever-growing list of progressive businesses, such as craft breweries, boutiques, restaurants, allied health clinics and more.
