Victoria Divisions of Family Practice

Dr Katharine McKeen - Co-chair

Very soon after joining the Victoria Division of Family Practice, Dr McKeen realized its incredible potential to be a catalyst for improving the lives of physicians and patients. Upon recognizing that it creates meaningful opportunities for each physician in the community to contribute to changes in the health care system, she began to more deeply understand the importance and impact of the initiative.

Dr McKeen graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1992 and completed her Family Practice Residency in Victoria in 1994. She is passionate about many aspects of medicine and well-suited to family practice.

Dr McKeen has also formed some special interests in musculoskeletal medicine (CASM Diploma in Sport Medicine), geriatrics, access to care, teaching, and team-building. She worked with the Canadian Forces for 13 years so has experience in occupational medicine, hyperbaric/diving, and aviation medicine. She is also attending the FPSC-sponsored Leadership and Management Development Program for physicians to learn skills to accomplish Division goals.

Dr McKeen currently divides her life between Veterans Affairs Canada, Tillicum Medical Clinic, her husband David, their two children, three stepchildren, and German shepherd. She is learning French and now attends a lot of meetings!

Dr McKeen felt humbled by the opportunity to serve on the Board of Directors of the Victoria Division and thanked the membership for their trust in her.
