Dr. Lauri Ann Shearer - Board Member

Dr. Lauri-Ann Shearer had been practising in Bella Bella since 2004 until 2023.  She has a 20-year history of serving as a full time Family Physician, Local Medical Director, and community medical advocate for Bella Bella and Klemtu, remote and isolated indigenous reserve communities on the Central Coast, as well as the nonindigenous communities of Ocean Falls and Denny Island.  For her service and for her commitment to improving medical services available to her community, she was the recipient of the RCCBC Award of Excellence in Rural Medicine, Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022.

Dr. Shearer graduated from the University of Ottawa, School of Medicine in 2000.  Prior to medical school she had careers as a Laboratory Technologist and a High School Teacher in Chemistry and Biology.

Dr. Shearer recently left Rural Practice in April 2023 and has now semi-retired in the Lower Mainland where she will be helping to establish the Elizabeth Fry Health Centre which will provide care to vulnerable and marginalized women, girls, and children in need of longitudinal health care and support services to build stable lives.  Dr. Shearer also provides medical support to EFry's Sequoia at Firth Residences Rehab Program in Abbotsford where she is the visiting physician for this site.

When she isn't working, Dr. Shearer can be found at Home Depot in the gardening and flooring department dreaming about her next home renovation project.
