Vancouver Division develops new resource for retiring physicians

As part of its work to support retiring physicians, the Vancouver Division of Family Practice has developed a new How to Retire Guide. The 52-page booklet provides guidance for doctors at any stage of retirement planning, from starting a plan, to finding a replacement doctor, to closing a practice. The guide was informed by input and learnings from the Division’s broader A GP for Me-related physician recruitment and retention efforts, which included supporting members planning to retire.
The guide is available:

  • Vancouver Division’s website.
  • Recruitment and Retention Toolkit. An area of the provincial Divisions of Family Practice website which aims to assist divisions and their partners (e.g., health authorities, municipalities) in their local recruitment, retention, and practice coverage efforts.
  • PracticeInBC.ca. A one-stop physician recruitment portal created by the Divisions of Family Practice Recruitment and Retention Steering Committee.

The toolkit was also the subject of a recent article in the Canadian Business Journal.
