Mental Health Programs at the Kamloops Y

MindFit is a 10-week program for teens ages 13-19 with mild to moderate symptoms of depression and/or anxiety. Participants, in a small group setting of 10-12 teens, will have a one-hour session focused on mental health topics to support participants in learning healthy coping skills. Following this, the group will participate in a one-hour physical activity session to support an increase in physical activity and to build social connections. Participants receive a free YMCA-YWCA Kamloops membership for the duration of the program.

The first program will begin on April 26 and will run until June 28 at the John Tod Centre. Registration is required and attendance at an information session is mandatory. The information sessions are scheduled for April 12 and April 19 from 3:30pm-5:30pm at the John Tod Centre. For both the information sessions and program sessions we will provide snacks and we are able to provide transportation passes and childcare.

Additionally, the first cycle of the Youth Mindfulness Group for youth ages 18-30 is wrapping up and has been very successful. There are some spaces available for the spring program beginning on May 1. Registration is required and attendance at an information session is mandatory. The information sessions are scheduled for April 10 and April 17 from 5:00pm-7:30pm at the John Tod Centre. For both the information sessions and program sessions the Y will provide snacks and they are able to provide transportation passes and childcare.
