CME “Pills of Knowledge for Best Evidence Rural Practice”

This strategy aims to establish a clinical case based local CME series - “Pills of Knowledge for Best Evidence Rural Practice” to: improve patient access to care; strengthen patient attachment; and enhance the provider experience through improved GP knowledge, skills, and GP-specialist communication/collaboration.

One CME workshop (small group face-to-face format) will be offered in each NIRD community based on identified practitioner needs and in consultation with practice teams and regional specialists. Key topic areas include:

  1. Enhanced clinical knowledge and skills for the rural practice setting
  2. Improving GP-specialist communication (and specialist support)

Specialists, in person, will work through rural practice case studies to improve GPs’ clinical knowledge, skills, and confidence in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of rural patients. In addition, GPs and specialists will identify communication challenges and develop an action plan to improve communication and enhance specialist support. A core element will include when and how to access specialist support and related resources.
